How Does a Book Travel Through Time, Just as You or I Do?

The Book of Lies

“De los diversos instrumentos del hombre, el más asombroso es, sin duda, el libro.”

— Jorge Luis Borges, El libro

How does a book travel through time, just as you or I do?

It is not the book itself, which is a front, a cover, nor is it its pages, laden with language.

It is not even the words but the images signed by them that give us the stage on which the characters infiltrate us with their fantastical, spectacular secrets, lies, and shame.

This is how we travel through time, swept by the contents of those famous books that have engendered the destiny of the world around us—swept downstream by Heraclitus' river.

Maybe Savonarola was right. We should have burned all the books, including this one, which is in the process of lying to us.

If you don’t believe me, go and find Dulcinea and her avatars, along with the so-called Escribidor.

You are going to come back here, now, empty-handed.

I’m telling you. I know something about this…
