An Eye for an Eye: A Poetic Elegy on Unrequited Love and Finality
An Eye for an Eye
…with love in his eyes, he allows them
to gaze at a reflection of your body and soul
whose accusing presence
overwhelms his loving eyelidless
eyes wide shut
But don’t think that those eyes of his
were eyes indeed just because you glimpse at them,
but because they always followed your reflection
without losing sight of you, moved by love
Those eyes are now dead
They died yesterday,
you’re one day too late, señorita
Such is the face of time.
He always claimed he only had eyes for you.
He was hoping you would come
to shut his eyelidless eyes forever.
Please, step right in
and see what you can do…
